The leaders of the Congolese Battery Council -CCB-, a state structure created on December 6, 2022, discussed, on Monday December 11, 2023, with experts and investors around the feasibility of its sovereign mission mainly focused on the creation of a value chain for the manufacturing of batteries and electric vehicles during this period of energy transition in DR Congo.
The city-province of Kinshasa hosted the conference to present the vision and launch of the first feasibility study of the Congolese Battery Council -CCB-, under the theme: "The value chain in motion".
According to the Director General of the Congolese Battery Council, Denis Lecouturier, the initiative is added value for DR Congo. Since, well carried out, it will make this country the backbone of its development in the decades to come.
"The ambition is immense. The challenges to be met are numerous but the repercussions will be gigantic for the DR Congo and its inhabitants. The integration of the value chain will do enormous benefits for our country in terms of industrialization and development. This project will also make DR Congo the backbone of development in the decades to come and will become a model of sovereignty over its own resources. We must now jump on the bandwagon of the energy transition and become the center of it," he pointed out during his opening speeches.
Concretely, explained Denis Lecouturier, this involves presenting the vision of the Congolese Battery Council on the installation of the value chain of electric batteries in DR Congo as well as launching the project of the first feasibility study in collaboration with CVMR, headquartered in Toronto, USA, with the aim of identifying partners to attract investors, promoting innovation in the electric battery sector and developing strategic mineral processing technologies which are used in the manufacture of the latter.
Seduced, the representative of the DR-Congolese Minister of Industry welcomed this initiative which materializes the vision of the DR-Congolese Head of State Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo in the context of the energy revolution in progress, to fight against climate change. At the same time, he encouraged the leaders of this state structure to locally transform the minerals in order to achieve the resulting added values.
For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CCB, Jérôme Makimba, welcomed the innovative vision of development put in place by the DR-Congolese Head of State with regard to the future of the mining and industrial sector in DR-Congo.
The initiative was fully appreciated by the participants throughout the workshop. Discussions between different experts and investors around the studies carried out and the data collected were the highlight of this day.
