Various projects are planned, including the construction of a butane gas production plant in Batanga (46.9 million EUR) and a Liquefied Natural Gas plant in Cap Lopez (940 million EUR), the renovation of the Oil Terminal as well as implementing a “Zero flaring” plan by 2030 (1.3 Gm3 of gas flared in 2021).
The country has, therefore, launched a plan to increase the national power generating capacity through the development of several dams throughout the country as well as solar power, natural gas or diesel power plants, development and financing of which are in progress with notably the French Eranove Group and Meridiam fund, with some in partnership with the Gabonese FGIS sovereign fund.
As far as natural gas is concerned (including associated gas), it is used in power plants and reinjection in oil wells (due to a country ban on gas flaring). The industrial use of natural gas is, however, being developed through a butane gas production plant in Batanga (46.9 million EUR) and a Liquefied Natural Gas plant in the Port-Gentil area.
