Côte d''Ivoire, March 28, 2024 - TotalEnergies has teamed up with Roxgold SANGO SA, a subsidiary of Fortuna Silver Mines Inc., to develop a ground-mounted solar power plant at the Séguéla gold mine, in Côte d''Ivoire.
TotalEnergies is supporting Roxgold SANGO SA in its energy transition with the construction of a 6 MWp (megawatt peak) solar power plant. With an estimated production capacity of around 11.7 GWh (gigawatt-hours) per year, the solar power plant will cover around 30% of the Séguéla mine''s energy needs.
TotalEnergies offers attractive energy solutions tailored to all areas of activity, both for the private sector - in particular the mining, cement, retail and agri-food sectors - and for the public sector, to support their decarbonization.
As a major player in the development, construction and operation of solar energy production systems, TotalEnergies supports its industrial and commercial customers in their energy transition by producing renewable electricity directly on their sites.
Almoktar ALLAHOURY, Country Chair TotalEnergies Côte d''Ivoire, says "this partnership with Roxgold SANGO SA, encouraged by Ivorian regulation, underline the effectiveness of our collaboration since 2016 via our Marketing & Services subsidiary. It illustrates our commitment towards a virtuous multi-energies strategy."
Peter Hansen, Fortuna Silver Mines Sustainable Development Director, West Africa, says he is "delighted to have TotalEnergies as a world-class partner to deliver this first large-scale solar project on a mine in Côte d''Ivoire, and proud that this project can contribute to both Côte d''Ivoire''s and the company''s GHG emissions reduction, while creating economic and sustainable development opportunities for the country and local stakeholders."
Hamady Sy, Director of TotalEnergies Renewables Distributed Generation Middle East & Africa (DG MEA), says "coping with the growing need for energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a challenge that we must take up jointly with our customers, stakeholders and society. With this project, TotalEnergies is participating in the development of photovoltaic solar energy inCôte d''Ivoire, and hopes to encourage other companies to move toward renewable energy."
As part of its ambition to get to net zero by 2050, TotalEnergies is building a world class cost-competitive portfolio combining renewables (solar, onshore and offshore wind) and flexible assets (CCGT, storage) to deliver clean firm power to its customers. At the end of 2023, TotalEnergies'' gross renewable electricity generation installed capacity was 22 GW. TotalEnergies will continue to expand this business to reach 35 GW in 2025 and more than 100 TWh of net electricity production by 2030.
