GSA is the agency responsible for establishing governmentwide vehicle contracts and leasing half of the non-postal federal fleet, while the other half is ordered from GSA – including a growing number of electric vehicles. In FY 2023, GSA ordered over 5,800 zero-emission vehicles - an increase of 63% from FY 2022. In the first quarter of FY2024, GSA ordered 4,000 more ZEVs – accounting for 20% of all orders and almost 30% of all light-duty vehicle orders.
At the start of the Biden-Harris Administration, the federal fleet included fewer than 2,000 ZEVs, out of 600,000 vehicles overall. Over the past three years, the federal government has ordered over 54,000 ZEVs and has begun installing more than 26,000 charging ports in the near term, adding to the 7,000 already in use across the government
GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan made the original announcement during her remarks at the 2024 Washington D.C. Auto Show''s Public Policy Day. Carnahan will also attend FedFleet 2024, the largest federal government gathering of automotive industry experts and government fleet managers, shaping the future of efficient and sustainable fleet operations.
