Most of Myanmar experiences electricity load shedding or brown-outs as a matter of course, a situation that has grown worse since the 2021 coup. But now even the pristine capital Naypyitaw has been informed the power will be switched off for hours on a daily basis.
Since the coup, power generation in the country has been in decline and power outages have been experienced across the country for over one year and finally even the seat of government, Naypyitaw, will face a similar power outage now.
The then junta built the new capital city Naypyitaw in 2004 and it has received round the clock power supply as a priority without disruption since then until now even though other towns and cities had power outages and load shedding regularly.
Now the junta''s Ministry of Electric Power has made an announcement which says that the wards in Naypyitaw will be divided into four groups and power supply will be provided alternatively with load shedding starting from 22 March.
An electric engineer, commenting on this issue, says power generation is low in the summer season with low water levels in the dam reservoirs and also the gas turbines in the country were not functioning in the country now.
After the coup, the junta Chief Min Aung Hlaing often said at meetings that electric vehicles and trains powered by electricity would run in the country and he also said that they would build a wind power turbine in Rakhine State for power generation.
