The Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana''s main power producer and supplier, has launched the first stage of a two-stage international bidding procedure for consulting services for the installation of a utility-scale floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) power plant on the Kpong reservoir. Expression of Interests (Pre-Qualification) are invited by 7 June for the role of Implementation Consultant.
The project is planned to be implemented in two stages, with an estimated total generation capacity of 30 MWp in the first phase. Through the involvement and financing of private investors, the plant is to be later expanded to around 50 MWp in a second phase. German bilateral financial cooperation funds are earmarked for phase one, which is being implemented by the German Development Bank (KfW).
The reservoir on which the FPV array is to be installed is impounded by the Kpong dam, also known as the Akuse dam, a 148 MW hydroelectric power generating dam on the lower Volta River near Akuse.
The objective of this assignment is to ensure the successful and timely implementation of the project in accordance with national and international good practices. The total implementation period for the services is expected to be 42 months from date of project commencement (including the Defect Notification Period).

Indonesia''s state-owned, vertically-integrated power utility, PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PT PLN) has launched a two-envelope bidding process without prequalification for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of pump-turbines, generator-motors and auxiliary equipment for the 1040 MW Upper Cisokan pumped-storage hydropower project, which is under construction in the West Java province. Bids are invited by 10 July.
