The purpose of the Public Utilities Commission is to regulate the electricity, water, and telecommunications sectors in Belize to efficiently provide the highest quality services at affordable rates, ensuring the viability and sustainability of each sector.
Service under this rate is available for all single-phase, 120/240 volt, domestic purposes in an individual private dwelling or an individual apartment and is subject to ourTerms and Conditions.
The Power Cost Adjustment and NYPA Hydro Power Adjustment Clause are incorporated in monthly bills along with the charges above. Subject to billing period and Terms and Conditions. Please see below for information regarding these items.
Note: A pilot program was available to a limited number of customers (150) from January 1 – December 31, 2022. The Municipal Light Board voted to open the rate to an additional 150 customers (for a total number of 300) on a first-come, first-served basis, starting on December 1, 2023. At this time, Belmont Light is accepting customers on a rolling basis for the rate.
Single-phase 120/240 volt customers in individual, private dwellings or individual apartments may elect to take service under this rate for domestic purposes. To join this rate, customers must apply to Belmont Light and have an advanced meter capable of interval billing installed. Service under this tariff is subject to Belmont Light''s Terms and Conditions.
Pilot Rate A TOU customers with an approved, interconnected EFR Facility, as defined by Belmont Light''s Policy on Emission-Free Renewable Energy Facilities, at their private dwelling will be compensated under this tariff for all kWh received by Belmont Light''s distribution system.
In summer months, on-peak periods begin at 1:00 p.m. and end at 7:00 p.m. each day, includingweekends and holidays. All other hours in summer months are designated off-peak. In non-summermonths, on-peak periods begin at 4:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. each day, includingweekends and holidays. All other hours in winter months are designated as off-peak.
Service under this rate is available for all single-phase, 120/240 volt, domestic purposes in an individual private dwelling or an individual apartment and subject to our Terms and Conditions.
Eligibility for this rate is based on economic need and is based on a customer’s eligibility for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance (LIHEAP) Program, administered by Community Teamwork. Applications to demonstrate economic need must be submitted annually. Please visit Community Teamwork’s LIHEAP page for more information and to apply.
Service under this rate is available for residential, municipal, and commercial customers with qualifying, interconnected emission-free renewable generating facilities sized at 1.5 MW or less. Customers interested in becoming distributed generation hosts must file an interconnection agreementwith Belmont Light prior to installation.
Residential customers will receive a credit equal to the number of kilowatt-hours billed during each month, up to a maximum of 500 kilowatt-hours, multiplied by the New York Power Authority (NYPA) Hydropower Credit Rate determined periodically as follows:NYPA = (NC-NV) / RK
Such NYPA Credit Rate will be determined periodically using estimated costs and volumes. Revenues and expenses will be reconciled to actual quantities and the balance carried forward to future periods.
When the billing period is for more than one month, the Customer Charge will be multiplied bythat number of months. Any bill for which valid payment has not been received within 45 daysfrom the date rendered shall be considered past due and bear interest on any unpaid balance, including any outstanding interest charges, at a rate of 1.5% per month from the date the billwas considered past due.
The Department''s Terms and Conditions are applicable for all customers until service isterminated on seventy-two hours written notice. The Terms and Conditions, where notinconsistent with any specific provisions hereof, are part of the rates above.
